LVAAS Youth Sponsorship Program

Program Purpose
The LVAAS Youth Sponsorship Program aims to foster astronomy interest among young LVAAS members by providing financial and mentorship support for ambitious astronomy-related projects.
By recognizing and rewarding dedication, the program encourages future generations of astronomers, engineers, scientists, educators, artists, and STEM leaders within the LVAAS community.

- Applicants must be active LVAAS members
- Applicants must have volunteered at 4 LVAAS events in 2025

Program Goals
Highlight youth accomplishments and inspire participation throughout the club.
Support astronomy-focused learning, research, outreach, and exploration.
Reward meaningful projects that demonstrate creativity and dedication.
Encourage younger members to pursue their passions in STEM and astronomy.
Eligibility Requirements
- Open to LVAAS members up to 25 years old
- Applicants must be active members
- Applicants must volunteer at a minimum of 4 LVAAS events
- Selection is merit-based only
- Projects must have a clear astronomy or STEM focus

Examples of Past Proposals
Claudio T. Stabile — Astronomy in the Community (2023)
Claudio built an astronomy observatory at Polk Township North Field as part of his Eagle Scout project. The project received support from LVAAS, the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project, and additional community donors.
Ava A. Stabile — Microscopy & Astronomy in the Community (2024)
Ava established a microscope and telescope lending program through the Western Pocono Community Library for her Girl Scout Gold Award project. The project gained support from LVAAS, the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project, Rutgers University, Celestron, and Library Telescope.
